This year, Houk House took home the Koogler Cup as the winner of the year-long House Games.
Starting with lip sync in the fall, following it up with a win in the Ice Games and rounding out with another win in the House Games, their position is cemented as the overall champs, earning Houk a sweeping success for the year.
“To come home with a win for these seniors…I was really happy,” Houk House Dean Kathleen Kraus said.
The end of year House Games competition is a full-day event with five sessions for over thirty events. Students from all grades are encouraged to participate in artistic, academic and physical activities to contribute to their whole house’s success.
“I’m thrilled with the way our kids performed, and I think they all had a great time,” Lockport House Dean Kelsey Wright said.
The day serves both as a form of healthy competition for students and teachers alike and as a way of winding down the end of the year before final exams. Students are relatively free to move around the school, food trucks are hired to provide lunch options and friends are able to group together regardless of house alignment.
House competitions build up through the year to culminate in the final awarding of the Koogler Cup, which is earned by the highest winning house through all events. Many students participate throughout the year to support their team and have a good time.
Houk’s win this year comes after three years of coming in second overall.
“I think it was a well deserved win,” Wright said. “I think they’ve worked…the last four years for this, so it was cool seeing them come out on top.”
Overall, even for those who didn’t have as great a success, the House Games were a winning event for students. Next year, the score starts anew and every house has its own equal chance to succeed.
“I would encourage…more people next year to come out and take part, because it’s a fun day,” Wright said.
