Twitches bewitches fans to this day

While the title may be off-putting upon first glance, Twitches is a cheesy yet classic Disney Channel Original Movie.

No, the movie is not about someone with an unfortunate twitching problem, the term “twitches” is actually a portmanteau of the words “twin” and “witches”.

The story follows a pair of identical twins, Alex and Camryn, who were separated at birth and meet up again on their twenty-first birthday. As if discovering a long-lost twin wasn’t enough, when they first touch, they feel a surge of magical energy.

The two bond, and they find out about the prophecy. They are the only ones that can save the magical dimension of Coventry. Meanwhile, their magical birth mother senses her daughters are still alive.

This movie is just as cheesy and cliche as one would expect, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a fun watch, and would definitely be entertaining to view with friends.

The plot seems awfully cliche when you truly stop to think about the plot and compare it to young adult novels in this era.

Actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry have great chemistry, which is to be expected, since they’re twins. Plus, they’re not exactly new to the acting scene.

Part of the enjoyment of this film is the sheer nostalgia of it all. Many saw it when it came out in 2005, or even remember seeing these actresses in their break-out show, Tia and Tamera. However, it probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable to people that don’t have those fond memories.

If you need a witchy and lighthearted movie to watch on Halloween night, tune into Twitches next time it’s playing on Disney Channel.
