This past Wednesday, the high school hosted House Games, an entire day dedicated to a school-wide competition for the House program. This one was the decennial; the ten year anniversary.
House Games day features a series of games across five different sessions that span the time of a normal school day. This typically features a mix of physical, mental, academic, and even artistic competitions. Certain physical outdoor events ended up having to be cancelled due to rainy conditions.
“It’s unfortunate that we can’t be outside, but I think that the transition [to indoors was] really seamless and well thought out,” Fairview teacher Denise Luksic said.
In every single event, each of the eight houses compete against one another, their performance counting toward points for an overall winner. These scores are added to points from the competitions which occurred earlier in the year.
A live display with descriptions of all of the games and details on the standings was, and still is, available on the official House Games website.
“I really like seeing the competition part, you know? . . . I [like] meeting new people, and just friendly competition overall,” Steamtown freshman Lissette Zarate Amaya said.
Aside from the individual games hosted, students that aren’t signed up for every single session or not in House at all still have things to do. They can hang out, walk around to spectate, attend the awards ceremony, or head out to the array of food trucks in the staff parking lot.
“I’m a part of [the] puzzle contest and Name That Tune,” Prospect Hill junior Addisen Christopher said. “I’m looking forward to competing in the events, and the food trucks.”
While each event and competition had its own winners, the overall winner for the entire year, and the Koogler Cup was Fulton Creek, with 267 points.
“I think this is one of the coolest days of the [entire] school year,” Fulton Creek Co-Dean David White said. “[It’s] an opportunity for all of our students to get involved in things that they normally wouldn’t necessarily be able to . . . [and] have fun.”
The results of the games throughout the year, from brackets to scorings, are all still available to view in detail on the website.
