This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Cali:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: I do cross country, track, Youth in Government, NHS, Teen Eco, and Carlisle Mentorship.
Q: Do you have any commitments outside of school?
A: Outside of school, I’m mainly responsible for keeping myself prepared and organized for all of my activities. I work whenever I’m not in season for a sport.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: At the start of every week, I make a checklist organized by the day, with everything I need to get done from when I wake up to go to sleep. I update it as needed, but it helps keep me in check for getting everything done that I need to.
Q: What is your favorite memory from Hayes?
A: My favorite memory from Hayes has been this year’s trip to the lakeside with the cross country team.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: My favorite class at Hayes has been AP Government and Politics with Mr. Haynes, I was with a really good group of people and I feel like I learned a lot. Mr. Haynes was a great teacher and set us up well for the AP exam.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: Get involved! High school is so much more enjoyable when you are actively participating in the sports and clubs that the school offers.
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: I’m really going to miss my friends, teammates, and teachers from Hayes.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: After high school, I plan to run cross country and track at Purdue University Fort Wayne while also majoring in civil or mechanical engineering. It’s been my goal to run for a Division 1 college since I got to high school, and I can’t wait to see how it goes!
Good luck Cali! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
