26 for ‘26: Slade Starr-Bowen
This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Slade:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: I am a member of the Hayes Tech Team, meaning I get to handle some of the technical issues students and teachers may have with their devices like chromebooks and TVs.
Q: Do you have any commitments outside of school?
A: Outside of school, I have two jobs and I work to teach myself about computer hardware.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: I generally balance my schoolwork with my outside commitments by making sure I utilize the time I am given during school hours effectively and efficiently, especially study halls and my lunch period, which is actually the time I’m using to answer these questions.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: My favorite class at Hayes, hands down, was definitely AP Government and Politics. GoPo, as a class, was my favorite since it helped me to really understand how the country I live in works, as well as understand implications of decisions being made for this country.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: If I have one piece of advice for future high schoolers, it’s that time should be used wisely. As someone who tends to procrastinate, the biggest impact in my academic success came when I started really taking advantage of the time I had in school.
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: The one thing I’ll likely miss the most from this school is the incredible staff here. I have had very few classes with teachers I didn’t genuinely enjoy being around, and the support offered by all the staff here through any and every challenge has greatly helped.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: Following high school, I plan to go to Ohio Wesleyan University, largely due to their program that allows certain eligible students to attend for free and only pay for housing, which is an incredible opportunity.
Good luck Slade! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
