This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Ash:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: Theater, Glee Club, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chess Club, Orchestra, and many CCP courses.
Q: Do you have any commitments outside of school?
A: I work at Scoreboard: Pub and Grill.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: I have a very busy schedule, especially at the beginning of the year while balancing marching band, school, work, theater, and more. Mostly, it just comes down to having a good schedule and making plans for certain times to get things done.
Q: What is your favorite memory from Hayes?
A: Going to Disney and Universal Studios with my friends for the marching band.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: Food and Nutrition [as well as] Advanced Foods. Not only was I with friends and my partner, but [I was] making food, going to the world food market, and getting to enjoy food with my class. This made the class relaxing, fun, and enjoyable.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: Make sure you are 110% positive that you take classes you are interested in. There are many options, especially in your senior year. And while getting your specific requirements each year is necessary, don’t pick a class if you don’t think you’ll like it. It’s a lot easier to get work done when you are interested in what you are doing.
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: My friends. They are what made going to high school feel worth it. Yes, I enjoyed my classes and activities, but most of the reason I enjoyed them was because of the people I was with. If I didn’t have someone there to enjoy it with me, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it, and I really hope I can keep these bonds close to me after high school.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: I love psychology, and if everything goes to plan, I want to become a psychiatrist. I want to enroll in Kent State University, get my Bachelor of Science in psychology, take the MCAT, and enter med school for my doctorate, then enter into a fellowship until I can obtain a license for my dream job.
Good luck Ash! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
