This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Hannah:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: Softball, volleyball (one of the varsity captains), National Honor Society (President), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, House Council (Houk), and YoungLife.
Q: Do you have any commitments outside of school?
A: Online college classes, 4-H, travel softball, and church activities.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: I am blessed to only have a half day of in-person classes at Hayes. Sometimes I do my work late at night, and then sleep in. On the other hand, it is nice to be able to come in early and study in the library, or meet with teachers. I also did some work before volleyball games, which is great because I can study with my friends who are in the same classes!
Q: What is your favorite memory from Hayes?
A: My favorite memory from Hayes is anything from House! I love to get really involved. Some of my favorite events are Powder Puff, Matball, and the Homerun Derby! I love getting to compete and make friends with people I would not have gotten to meet if it were not for House!
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: Physics has been my favorite class at Hayes! Science has always been my favorite subject, but physics is very different from the typical life science classes, and I think that is super cool! I also loved that class because the learning was very hands-on and we did a lot of fun projects.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: A piece of advice I would share [is] don’t get too caught up in actual school. Don’t get me wrong, study hard and do your best academically, but take these years to build relationships. Meet new friends, form relationships with teachers, get involved, and expand your circle!
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: When I leave Hayes I will miss the relationships I built the most. The community here is like no other and I will definitely miss that.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: After high school I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Malone University. I will be studying nursing and playing softball!
Good luck Hannah! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
