This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Audrey:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: I take part in the Hayes Symphonic choir, Thespian musical production, and I was in the Hayes play. I also am a part of the House Council.
Q: Do you have any commitments outside of school?
A: Outside of school, I partake in weekly dance classes Mondays and Wednesdays, and watch my sisters on Tuesday evenings.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: I’ve balanced my school work by using the utmost of my work time in classes and study halls to allow myself as much time after school that I don’t have to do anything. When I do have stuff outside of school I allot time without distractions for doing said school work whenever I have the chance to sit down and do it.
Q: What is your favorite memory from Hayes?
A: One of my favorite memories from Hayes was probably getting the chance to work on wall decorations for my house. Although it was only me working on it and they never got up, it was fun to work on something for a community I was a part of. The same goes for when I got to help with prom decorations when I was a member of the student council for my first 3 years of highschool, but I got to work with many people those times.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: My favorite class was Mr. Lehman’s chemistry or Mrs. Wright’s Introduction to Acting. I enjoyed their classes because they were very engaging and kept a fairly light hearted and joyful vibe to their classrooms that was always great to be around.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: For future high school students, I suggest knowing your limits for activities and difficult classes. If you’re taking advanced classes and doing a lot of activities, don’t get a job or other high commitments outside of school. It may seem important but you’ll overwork yourself, and getting a job is not essential during high school. I was told to not get a job because of the workload I already had, and it allowed me a much more relaxed high school than some others.
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: I will definitely miss the cardboard cutouts that travel around the school during the lead up to Dance Through the Decades. They’re always so fun to see; just walking into a classroom and finding Chewbacca and Han Solo standing there.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: Once I graduate I intend to go to Ohio State University for Architecture because I get to work with my hands, design things, and work with math, which are three of my favorite things mixed into one category and who could pass that up? Not to mention, a lot of family are alumni of the college, so we pretty much breathe scarlet and grey.
Good luck Audrey! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
