This year, the Talisman is doing special features on 26 unique seniors throughout the school year to celebrate these past four years they’ve spent here. These students represent the different facets of the class of 2026 at Delaware Hayes.
Meet Charlie:
Q: What activities are you involved in at Hayes?
A: I’m involved in orchestra, specifically Hayes Players, and play in an ensemble for OMEA solo and ensemble. I also participate in a lot of House Games, including Mariokart, Smash Brothers, Math Madness, Improv, and Reverse Charades. Furthermore, I participate in the plays and musicals. I also go to games club and am part of Teen Eco, an environmental science group.
Q: How did you balance your schoolwork with your other commitments?
A: It’s difficult to balance schoolwork and other commitments, but generally the method I use is simply setting a time each day that I won’t do work past.
Q: What is your favorite memory from Hayes?
A: My favorite memory from Hayes was the end of the Smash Brothers tournament on House Games Day last year. The final match was very close and came down to a one on one fight between me and the final member of the Fulton Creek team. I did lose, but it was incredibly fun nonetheless.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Hayes and why?
A: My favorite class has been AP Environmental Science. Overall, the class is set up in a fun way, with a unique grading system that allows a lot of flexibility. It’s also an entertaining subject and has been one of the more fun AP classes I’ve taken. The teacher, Mr. Bakunas, is also funny and a good teacher and helped make the class as fun as it was.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for future high schoolers?
A: Honestly my biggest piece of advice is to get involved in things. That’s something anyone coming into high school is going to hear from just about everyone, but it’s very true and it makes the whole experience much better.
Q: What is one thing you’ll miss when you’re gone?
A: I’ll really miss the connections I have to so many people through the music programs, clubs, and house.
Q: What are your plans for after high school and why?
A: After high school, I’m going to college to pursue a master’s in computer science for game design and programming.
Good luck Charlie! We are looking forward to seeing what you will achieve in these next steps.
